Gde sunce izlazi prvo na svetu- Where the sun rises, first n the world

Postoji neka  magija u svitanju svakoga dana u Gisbornu.

There comes time when everything comes together, my brother and me get time off and meet somewhere in New Zealand and spend time together with our families.f. Happy days!

This time choice was Gisborne, little city which is somewhere in the middle from Auckland and Wellington, our home cities. That Sarah parents own a holiday house there, is of course nice and   cheap solution

Because my daughter had a little cold I decided to fly there.Which in a way was a pity ,because the road trip to there is separate joy with fantastic scenery .But I am sure there will be another time.

There was only one condition,no mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices. Our families back home had a phone number of a  holiday house  for just in case. Only my brother was aloud to check his mail once a day, if there are some urgent matters at work.I managed to sneak two short messages to my dear friend.

Did I miss Internet? Mostly not.I missed some people  but net as such..no.There was no time for that.We played board games all day,had a long walks on the beach and long conversations.Sometimes funny ,sometimes serious. On a rainy days we would not bother to come out of our pajamas.I read quite a few books I brought with me.

My brother brought a whole collection of black and white movies and we would many nights spend watching them in the company of excellent Gisborne wine.

I was the main chef and the menu was a  la wish.

In the Māori language, Gisborne is known as Tairawhiti – ‘the coast upon which the sun shines across the water’.

Gisborne is the first city in the world to greet the sun each morning, and it has a reputation for great food, wine and surf beaches. As the unofficial ‘Chardonnay Capital of New Zealand’, Gisborne has a comprehensive wine trail leading to boutique wineries. Several operators offer custom tours tailored for individuals or groups, to spare you the problem of driving.

Kaiti Beach is the site of Captain Cook’s first landing in New Zealand (9 October 1769); nearby is picturesque Te Poho O Rawiri Marae. If you’re interested in Maori culture, Gisborne is an essential port of call on your itinerary – old traditions are still evident in many parts of the city. Oral history records Titirangi (Kaiti) Hill as the point of arrival for the migratory waka (canoe), Horouta, which brought the first Maori to the area.

There is a certain magic to the new day in Gisborne. For as the most easterly city in the world you can be sure that if you are watching the sun rise here you are one of the first people on earth to greet the new day.
The best spot to do this is undoubtedly on a stretch of white sandy Gisborne beach with the sun rising over the Pacific Ocean.
Locals recommend Wainui Beach, just a short drive from the city and a favorite spot for walking, swimming, surfing, fishing and horse trekking.

I hope I managed to give you an idea of this fantastic place, that wakes up every morning and greets the sun as first in the world.
